This Memorandum supersedes Technical Memorandum (Bridges) BE 1/73 issued in January 1973
and is intended to be used in conjunction with the 1969 Edition of the Specification for
Road and Bridge Works as amended by Technical Memoranda BE 6/72, 8/72 and 9/72 together with
Technical Memorandum H5/71, Metric Addendum to the Specification. It should also be
read in conjunction with Technical Memorandum BE 5/73 , Standard Highway Loadings.

This Memorandum, including the relevant clauses of CP 114: Part 2 and CP 116: Part 2 as
listed in Appendix I, is mandatory for all reinforced concrete highway structures for
motorway and trunk road projects. It is recommended for use where appropriate on other
roads.
